We are happy to announce that the 6th Workshop on Camera Traps, AI, and Ecology will be held as a hybrid event at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, hosted by the Wegmann group in the Department of Biology, on Thursday and Friday, January 21st and 22nd, 2027. Registration is now open!

For this year's workshop, we welcome any submissions that cover but are not restricted to the following topics:

• Camera trap datasets (images, image sequences, or videos) from wildlife camera traps, insect cameras, or other animal monitoring cameras (e.g., in a Zoo or other controlled environments)
• Animal detection (in images or videos)
• Identification of individuals and morphological traits (in images or videos)
• Species and fine-grained recognition approaches for animals (in images or videos)
• Animal pose estimation (in images or videos)
• Tracking of animal movement (in images or videos)
• Video recognition of animal behaviour
• Applying AI methods to camera trap data for answering ecological questions, including new ecological questions or important open problems that cannot be solved with current AI approaches
• Preprocessing of camera trap data, including ethical and legal problems

We offer two options for submitting a talk for the workshop:

Paper Track:
For the paper track we ask for a 4-page paper submission. Accepted papers will be awarded a 15 minute talk + 5 minutes Q&A. If accepted to hold a talk at the CamTrapAI Workshop, speakers will be invited to submit a finalised version of their papers to be published in an IET Special Issue for the workshop. The paper submission deadline is on Fri 27th Nov 2026.

Abstract Only Track:
For the abstract only track we ask for a short abstract submission. Selected abstracts will be invited to give a shorter talk than those in the paper track. The Abstract Only submission deadline is on Fri 18th Dec 2026.

Pietro Perona California Institute of Technology (Caltech) Pietro Perona is the Allen E. Puckett Professor of Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, where he directs the Information Science and Technology initiative. Professor Perona is a pioneer of computer vision, where his research helped to establish the field of visual object categorisation. His Visipedia project gave rise to the iNaturalist and Merlin Bird ID apps, and his group also develops vision systems for the automated analysis of animal behaviour. His contributions have been recognised with the Koenderink Prize and the Longuet-Higgins Prize.	Devis Tuia École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) Devis Tuia is Director of the Section of Environmental Science and Engineering and Associate Professor at the Environmental Computational Science and Earth Observation Laboratory. Professor Tuia is an expert in the use of remote sensing imagery and artificial intelligence applied to Earth sciences. His work focuses particularly on Earth observation using various data sources, and on developing computational methods to improve our understanding of environmental systems.
Mimi Arandjelovic Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology Mimi Arandjelovic is a research scientist in the Department of Primate Behavior and Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, where she co-directs the Pan African Programme: The Cultured Chimpanzee (PanAf). Her work spans primate genetics, molecular ecology and conservation biology. She leads the Chimp&See citizen science project and the ZambaCloud AI platform for automated species detection in camera trap videos.	Thierry Aebischer African Parks Thierry Aebischer initially arrived in Chinko, Central African Republic in 2012 when he conducted research as a student on wildlife in the area. He was part of the team that first founded the Chinko Project back in 2014 and has been with Chinko ever since. He is now Conservation Manager.
Luc Le Grand KORA Since joining KORA in 2020, Luc Le Grand has participated in the monitoring and research projects on lynx, wild cat and wolf populations in Switzerland. He works as wild life biologist and data manager, and has developed a semi-automated workflow to process the large amount of Camera Trap Data collected by KORA every year.

The workshop will run as a hybrid event. On-site attendance will be at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland on Campus Pérolles with 140 on-site places available.

The campus can be reached from Fribourg train station by taking the bus to the stop "Charmettes" or by a 20 minute walk. Fribourg is easily accessible via a direct train from Bern (30 minutes) or Lausanne (50 minutes).
